In economic terms, the EU has no time to lose says Bellstedt and it is for this reason that Commission President José Manuel Barroso and Vice-President Günter Verheugen, with a specific industrial policy remit, have cited the Lisbon Process as a main plank of their work. The „Lisbon Process“ label covers all Brussels-based initiatives designed to give the EU a major new impetus to economic growth – for example, by removing unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles, promoting new technologies and liberalizing markets.
